Qualifying for the semis

Letter July 05, 2019
Every player should play responsibly and give his level best

TURBAT: With England winning their match against New Zealand, and occupying the fourth position in the ICC Cricket World Cup, Pakistan’s chances of qualifying for the semi-finals are gravely threatened. Our team needs to win its match against Bangladesh with a very high run rate to qualify. The chances of winning also come with a set of pre-conditions that must be fulfilled. If Bangladesh win the toss and opt to bat first, then we will automatically be out of the tournament — even if we win the match. If we win the toss, or are given the chance to bat first, we may still have a chance to win. In that case, we will need at least 400 runs and dismiss Bangladesh at 84 or make 350 runs and dismiss the Bengal Tigers at 38 runs. In order to achieve such a result — or even something close to it — the team captain should be focusing on each and everything in the ground. We need our top batsmen to play brilliantly and score more than 50 runs each. In my opinion, Haris Sohail should be given the chance to open the batting instead of Imamul Haq, given his extraordinary efforts in previous matches. Other than that, every player should play responsibly and give his level best. We hope our team is able to win the cup!
