The government should take measures to stop crimes against women
TURBAT: Horrifying incidents of rape and sexual assault are happening regularly in our country. On June 24, we received news that an old woman had been stabbed to death by a man, who had entered her house by scaling the wall and was attempting to rape the woman’s married daughter. This happened in Hazro village in Punjab. The woman heard her daughter’s cries for help and rushed to help her. As she tried to rescue her daughter from the clutches of the intruder, he stabbed her to death and injured the daughter. Her injuries were extensive and neighbours took her to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital. After that, she had to be moved to Rawalpindi due to a lack of proper facilities at the taluka hospital. By then she had bled to death. The body was shifted back to the tehsil hospital. There it was kept for several days, as there was no female doctor to perform autopsy. The suspect is at large.
This shows the sad state of our society. The society has become degenerate. Deadheads do not spare anyone as they try to satisfy their lust. Women are not safe even in in their homes. The above-mentioned incident proves this. The elderly woman could have been saved. She died due to the absence of adequate health facilities in our rural areas. People have to wait for hours only to be told they need to go to another hospital. The incident also shows the police’s slack performance as they have so far failed to arrest the alleged rapist. The government should take measures to stop crimes against women. Rapists should be given deterrent punishment. Nothing short of death sentence will reverse the trend of rape and sexual assault. Let us ensure a safer environment for our women and girls. This is up to the government to decide how to go about it. Other crimes like robbery and banditry also are on the rise. This menace too should be eradicated. Progress and development is not possible without eliminating all kinds of crime. A crime-free society is necessary for progress.
