The government should take action to curb these pests
TANDO ADAM: Locusts have attacked Sindh. Earlier this year, some areas of Balochistan were struck by locusts after untimely rains. Swarms of locusts were first seen over Eritrea and Sudan, and they have travelled to Pakistan through Saudi Arabia and Iran. They thrive in a desert environment with moisture, and Balochistan and Sindh provide this environment. Unfortunately, these insects are very destructive and acres worth of crops are expected to be affected by the locust attack. Rural Sindh holds an important place in the country’s economy because of its share of produce. We generate millions of rupees from the sale of the agricultural crops grown in Sindh. Farmers are to suffer a huge loss. The government should take action to curb these pests. Sindh got affected because they were unable to control locusts in Balochistan. The government relies on one aircraft to spray over pests. The Sindh government should deal with the locust attack like the emergency it is!
