Celebrating victory

Letter June 26, 2019
While the country continues celebrating the win against South Africa, we should also be realistic

TURBAT: We truly appreciate and celebrate Pakistan’s victory against South Africa in the ICC World Cup. I would like to congratulate our team and I pray for good fortune to strike our team once again in the upcoming match against New Zealand. The match will be tricky, as the Kiwis rank on top in the competition.

I hope our captain makes prudent decisions this time as well, and keeps the condition of the ground and the players in mind, at the time of the toss. The captain should know his team well enough to know which player can score better against a particular team, and they should be brought forward accordingly. Haris Sohail played wonderfully by scoring 89 runs in the match against South Africa. He should play in the upcoming matches given his improved game.

While the country continues celebrating the win against South Africa, we should also be realistic. South Africa have also performed poorly in the tournament, and lost all except one match they have played. However, winning against New Zealand is not just difficult, but also essential in order to remain in the tournament. We wish our team all the best. May they continue to make us proud!
