The childish behaviour that is exhibited by our parliamentarians is disrespectful to the House and to the nation
RAWALPINDI: Apropos the opinion piece ‘Parliament’s Explosive Budget Session’ published on June 16th in The Express Tribune. The writer gave a glimpse of what goes on in parliamentary sessions behind the camera. The readers welcome this. It is disappointing to know that our elected representatives think so little of the public that they would create a ruckus in the assembly while the budget is announced. As a citizen, it is my right to hear the speaker announce the budget that will affect my life drastically for the next year, without any disturbances. Voters who elect these people as their representatives to parliament are not accorded respect, as parties continue to play their game of politics during such important sessions. The childish behaviour that is exhibited by our parliamentarians in almost every session is disrespectful to the House and to the nation. They don’t seem to act in a way that can help in taking the country forward. Our tax money is being wasted on these people, who do not even bother attending most of the sessions. They only attend when an important legislation is being proposed, only to obstruct it because they give preference to party loyalties rather than the country and the people. It is high time our representatives took their jobs seriously and unite for the betterment of the country! If public representatives don’t mend their ways we will gradually lose trust in them leading to a grave damage to the cause of democracy.
