What good has come out of the many ombudsmen that have operated in Pakistan in the present and the future?
KARACHI: Congratulations to Javed Jabbar for being very straight and forthright in offering comments, with reference to his letter of June 29 titled “Editorial comment”.
I have just one disagreement about having an ombudsman so that readers have an alternative route for channeling their complaints regarding any aspect of the newspaper or its policies. What good has come out of the many ombudsmen that have operated in Pakistan in the present and the future? What I am trying to say is that while the post is a good idea, the emphasis should be on improving the system as a whole so that every member of the system does his or her job properly.
Of late, it seems to have become a fashion to criticise the army and various government functionaries. As for Pakistan’s relations with India, they shall never be cordial until and unless the issue of Kashmir is resolved. Javed Jabbar is justified in defending the army on this issue.
