Precious lives are being lost due to this mismanagement of the road network
KARACHI: Almost all of the roads in Karachi are in a bad shape. The situation has become worse as these roads continue to cause traffic jams, accidents and damage to vehicles. This gets worse during the monsoon season as the drainage system clogs up and water accumulates on roads, flooding them. Moreover, the layout of the roads has also been altered in recent years, making it more dangerous for commuters. Approximately 30,000-32,000 accidents take place in the city every year, and more than a third of these are because of the faulty designs of roads, such as dangerous U-turns or lack of a service road causing commuters to go in the wrong direction.
Precious lives are being lost due to this mismanagement of the road network and nothing is being done to rectify these problems. The condition is even worse in some areas as piles of garbage continue to accumulate and cause germs and stench to grow. The government and the authorities concerned must look into the matter seriously and take necessary actions promptly. The needful should be done before the start of monsoon rains.
