A shocking defeat

The Pakistani cricket team has yet to face top class teams in a big event

HYDERABAD: In an upsetting defeat, Afghanistan beat Pakistan in their first warm-up game in Bristol, England, ahead of the 12th Men’s Cricket World Cup.

The batsmen from our side, with the exception of Babar Azam, failed to perform well against Afghanistan’s bowling line-up. Despite having a supposedly strong batting line-up, the green shirts could not even bat through the full 50 overs, as they were all out at a score of only 262 runs in the 48th over. The bowlers also failed. Afghanistan won the game in the last over with three wickets still intact.

The poor performance by the green shirts in a warm-up game is beyond comprehension. I believe that the fear of defeat is one of the reasons behind our cricket team’s recent shocking defeat in a warm-up game. The Pakistani cricket team has yet to face top class teams in a big event. The team, led by Skipper Sarfraz Ahmed, should wake up and learn from its mistakes. In order to win the World Cup, our players will have to give an excellent performance.
