Turtles and tortoises are creatures that help protect the ecosystem
TURBAT: Turtles exist in many parts of the world in a range of environments. Since 2000, the American Tortoise Rescue marked 23rd May as the day to show love and raise awareness for protecting turtles and tortoises around the world. The day reminds us about our irresponsible and reckless behaviour towards the environment and the threat this poses to the lives of turtles and tortoises. Pakistan’s coastline is home to numerous species of turtles that come ashore to breed. Various steps have been taken by NGOs and the wildlife departments to ensure the survival of hatchlings. However, the growing pollution and climate change pose a great threat to turtles.
Turtles and tortoises are creatures that help protect the ecosystem. Bio-diversity is essential to maintain a clean environment. These creatures have a long life span. A tortoise that was brought to the Calcutta (Kolkata) Zoo during the rule of Clive in the 18th century died after 250 years in the 1990s. Turtles and tortoises help maintain bio-diversity.
