Bringing down positivity

Letter May 22, 2019
We must ask ourselves till when will we keep suffering in silence and condoning what is wrong

TURBAT: Very rarely do we come across people who wish to erase all evils from our society and replace it with positivity. They want to end the discrimination, injustice, corruption and abuse that are rampant in our country, and introduce a system of equity and law and order to make life easy for everyone. Unfortunately, such people are often looked down upon and mocked for being idealistic. Despite being well aware of and having often suffered from the consequences of all the evils that are present in our society, people pull down those who wish to change it.

Whenever an individual gathers the courage to publicly declare his/her dream of creating a better society for the future generations, and points out the morally correct path for people to follow, he/she is criticised by society for their naivety. They fall victim to vicious propaganda that is created against them to silence their fight for what is right. The backlash they face makes one think that they may be indulging in a sinful act by trying to work for the betterment of the society they live in. People often shun these righteous individuals because they usually benefit from the wrongful practices that are present. This shows how humanity has suffered at the hands of personal interests and gains.

The courage shown by the righteous is truly commendable as they continue their fight in these dark times. However, we must ask ourselves till when will we keep suffering in silence and condoning what is wrong, while actively hindering the fight for what is right and till when will our society keep justifying these wrongs and keep pulling down people who fight against it?
