Karachi’s underpasses

KARACHI: It has now become a routine occurrence for a truck or bus to get stuck in an underpass in Karachi, as these vehicles exceeds the height limit that is allowed in the tunnel.

There are a few changes that can be made to prevent this from happening. This kind of happenings damages the trucks as well as risks damaging the cars around it.

Usually when one enters an underpass, one can feel a jump due to the shift in height. Cars can overcome the jump easily, but trucks and buses either risk getting damaged or toppled over.

The road structure needs to be fixed to prevent this, especially for the Lalukhet underpass.

While the city authority has installed cameras at the entry, the police should actively monitor footage to warn trucks to not enter, especially at night time, and lasers can be installed to mark the height of the tunnels to indicate the height of the tunnels for truck drivers.
