Law students’ predicament

Letter May 04, 2019
The students of Law Department request higher education minister to take action and save their futures

TURBAT: The Law Department at the University of Turbat had scheduled the new term to start from 1st September 2018, which was before the Law Admission Test (LAT) was conducted. The students were told to submit their fees and attend the classes, and appear for the test as it would be scheduled.

The LAT was conducted on the 17th of March, and its results were announced recently. Many students who have even cleared their mid-term exams and paid their fees have failed to meet the admission conditions as they did not clear the LAT, and have now been removed from the programme.

According to the Law students, the Head of Department (HoD) had previously stated that the students can take the test during their five years of studies and failing the test at the first attempt is not an issue. Unfortunately, they are now being told to not appear in the final exams that will start in May.

We would like to question those responsible for wasting a whole year of the students, as to why the HoD’s statement is not being acted upon. If the admission conditions were not being fulfilled then why did the university start classes and conduct exams? What about the students who scored well in exams but their LAT is still pending? The students of the Law Department request the Higher Education Minister to take action and save their futures.
