Gujjar Nullah

Open nullah is a breeding ground for mosquitoes, rodents and even snakes

KARACHI: In 2016, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) demolished approximately 4,000 structures that were constructed on encroached land along the 28-kilometre long Gujjar Nullah. There is now a light steel bridge over the nullah which is used by the public to cross it. I too cross the bridge every day on my way to university and have seen its condition deteriorate with the passage of time. The bridge has developed cracks on the sides and has no boundary around it. Numerous accidents have occurred here due to this. Children have fallen into the nullah while crossing the bridge during the rainy season. Several have died.

The open nullah is a breeding ground for mosquitoes, rodents and even snakes. These pose dangers to the area residents. The authorities are requested to construct a more strong bridge and clean the nullah to protect people from dangers.
