Journalism in Balochistan

Letter May 03, 2019
Balochistan faces many issues

TURBAT: Balochistan needs more journalists to highlight the issues of the province. Journalists expose wrongdoings and inefficiencies of the government and the lack of infrastructural facilities. Currently, there are only a handful of news agencies operating in Quetta. They do not cover other urban and rural areas of the province. Turbat — the second-most populous city of Balochistan-- has only one news agency, Vsh News, which also lacks many facilities and has a very small budget from the government, and hence does not have an outreach in the rural areas.

The province faces many issues, such as lack of schools, hospitals, etc, and we need journalists to cover these and raise awareness about them. I urge the government of Balochistan to facilitate journalists and news channels to access the rural areas of the province.
