Remembering Iqbal

Letter April 23, 2019
Allama Iqbal awakened and unified the Muslims of the sub-continent through his inspiring poetry

HYDERABAD: The 81st death anniversary of Allama Iqbal was observed on 21st April across the country. Allama Iqbal was a prominent Muslim leader, philosopher and poet in the Indian subcontinent. He visualised Pakistan as a homeland for the Muslims of the subcontinent and also worked for the realisation of a Muslim homeland. He was a trusted lieutenant of the Quaid-e-Azam.

Allama Iqbal awakened and unified the Muslims of the sub-continent through his inspiring poetry. His Allahabad address of 1930 is particularly famous for his calls for a separate homeland in north-west India, and he rightly predicted the formation of a Muslim-majority state to include Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan and the NWFP (now K-P). Despite his vision for the country, Dr Iqbal did not live to see the Quaid-e-Azam execute his dream by gaining independence from the British and creating Pakistan. Dr Iqbal will be remembered for ever for his great works as well as his services to the Muslims of the subcontinent.
