The only glimmer of hope in my view is the current judiciary and the media.
KARACHI: The state of affairs in Pakistan is possibly the worst that could have been dreamt of. Price hikes, unemployment, terrorism, target killings, corruption etc are at its peak.
On the political front, the recent tirade by President Zardari and Nawaz Sharif against each other has reminded us of the politics of the 90s, and that we haven’t learnt anything from our mistakes. The military was believed to be the most disciplined and professional institution of the country, but the month of May was a performance audit of the military, revealing their incompetence on every front, whether it was the Abbottabad raid or the PNS Mehran debacle.
The only glimmer of hope in my view is the current judiciary (though some people might still have reservations on its workings) and the media (both print and electronic).
The people of Pakistan have to rise up and vote out the current ruling elite in the coming elections, if they want peace and prosperity in their lives. The civil-military bureaucracy and the politicians have failed miserably in governing Pakistan and giving relief to its people.
