KARACHI: As parents of young children, we are often faced with the problem of a lack of public parks in Karachi, as it limits children’s recreational activities.
Open spaces in the city are shrinking due to the increasing population, urbanisation and industrialisation. The increasing traffic and pollution, combined with the above-stated factors, have contributed to the deterioration of our environment and health.
The shortage of open spaces in residential areas is increasing by the day. Young children and the elderly are the worst affected. Our children are unfortunate as they do not have enough safe space to play and have fun.
The parks in our area of Gulistan-e-Jauhar have either been encroached upon or are in such a bad shape that the children fear going there. The authorities concerned should take notice of this and create safe green spaces for the children to play and grow into healthy and happy citizens.
