Farmers’ woes

Letter April 17, 2019
The authorities concerned should start issuing burdanas to farmers without any further loss of time

KHAIRPUR MIRS: The wheat crop is ready for harvest and in most areas of Sindh the process has started. Farmers are, however, yet to receive burdanas (gunny bags). It seems that the Sindh Food Ministry has not yet opened wheat purchase centres and so it has not started the issuance of burdanas for the season. There are also rumours that the Sindh government is not willing to purchase wheat this year. This situation has created anxiety among the farmers as they have heavily invested in the crop. Uncertainty stares them in the face.

The authorities concerned should look into the matter and start issuing burdanas to farmers without any further loss of time.
