Mismanagement of heavy traffic

Residents of Karachi are well aware of the state of traffic in the city that seems to worsen by the day

KARACHI: As residents of Karachi, we are well aware of the state of traffic in the city that seems to be getting worse by the day. The number of private vehicles has increased drastically in the past few years, as is visible in everyday commute. However, the road networks are unable to accommodate this growth. The roads have either remained the same, or gotten worse due to lack of maintenance. Some attempts have been made to build flyovers in various areas to distribute the flow of traffic, but the time during construction has taken a toll on its citizens.

Moreover, traffic wardens are unable to manage cases of illegal parking, especially of tankers and large containers. The timings for these heavy vehicles is after 11PM to 5AM, but they are seen running their services during regular timings as well. This causes traffic jams which often witness school vans, public buses and ambulances stuck in them. Many of these heavy vehicles are also parked on the sides of main roads at around 8AM, which restricts the flow of traffic. Schoolchildren and office goers often get late because of this as this is the peak time for these commuters.

I request the DG traffic to pay attention to this matter so that this everyday problem of the citizens could be eased, if not resolved.
