Moving backwards

Letter June 22, 2011
It seems the minister is either just out for cheap electoral publicity or has a grudge against Karachi Grammar School.

KARACHI: This is in response to the report published in your newspaper, titled “After child of Chehlum attack victim ‘turned away’, minister blasts KGS” (June 21).

Let’s put things into perspective: What constructive work has the said minister, who is in charge of katchi abadis, done during his tenure? What about the illegal one that’s cropped up opposite my house? Isn’t that his job? Since when does education have anything to do with his portfolio? (Not that Sindh’s current education minister knows anything about his job either).

Rather than shutting down the few good schools we do have, the government should focus on improving the state of public education. It seems the minister is either just out for cheap electoral publicity or has a grudge against Karachi Grammar School.

What we need in government are men of substance, not hot air balloons.
