Speedy vehicles

Letter March 22, 2019
New drivers lack discipline and disregard traffic laws

TURBAT: I would like to draw the attention of the traffic police regarding the vehicles exceeding the speed limit in the main city of Turbat. These are a regular cause of fatal accidents, often leading to loss of precious lives.

The recent rise in population, and subsequently the number of cars in the city, has resulted in heavier traffic than what was previously the usual. The new drivers lack discipline and disregard traffic laws, driving recklessly and endangering the lives of the public, as well as their own selves.

Moreover, there are very few working traffic signals or traffic wardens on duty around the city to regulate and control the flow of traffic. Recently, I observed a car which was being driven at a recklessly high speed in the central bazaar. The people and other cars around it barely managed to escape unscathed, and yet the driver did not correct his ways.

As a citizen, I most humbly request the District Commissioner of Turbat to take immediate actions against reckless drivers in order to create safer roads in the city. Imposing fines on such drivers might act as a deterrent.

Moreover, the practical test to obtain a driver’s licence should also be made more stringent in order to ensure that drivers are trained to drive responsibly and only then are they given their licences to bring their vehicles out on the road.
