Still no law had been enacted as yet to check child labour in the province
TURBAT: Due to poverty, children in Balochistan are compelled to work for their families from a young age. Mostly children are found working at construction sites, coal mines, as garbage collectors and at automobile workshops.
One of the reasons for an increase in child labour is the cause of sale and trafficking of children. Earlier in 2013, the ILO estimated that in Loralai district alone more than 500 children were working in coal mines. According to the Society for Empowering Human Resources (SEHR) in Quetta, nearly 10,000 child labourers are present. Still no law had been enacted as yet to check child labour in the province.
This is a sad reality of our times and the rising incidence of child labour is a challenge confronting the government of Balochistan. It requires meaningful efforts from all stakeholders, including the government.
