KARACHI: Prime Minister Imran Khan should be appreciated for reiterating for peace once again even when our neighbouring country India’s leadership seems adamant about going to war. In his latest speech to the nation, Prime Minister Imran Khan called for dialogue once again and asked India “to let better sense prevail.”
India should realise that a full-fledged war will not only work against Pakistan but itself as well — a nation with a population of almost 1.2 billion will be severely affected — and in fact, the entire South Asian region will be adversely affected if the two nations go to war.
Both India and Pakistan are nuclear powers. Why the Indian leadership fails to realise the consequences of a war is beyond anyone’s understanding. Saner voices in India — if any are left — should work towards ensuring that the ruling elite in India awakens from its slumber to recognise the damage it is causing for itself and the region.
