Pornography and its effects

Letter February 14, 2019
It is important that till a certain age children are observed for their exposure to certain content

GUJRAT: It is past midnight and the entire family is asleep with the sole special case of a young fellow sitting on the bed, with his workstation right before him. To anybody, including his family, it appears as though he’s examining, or chipping away at a vital undertaking, or watching at the most recent series on web or possibly watching some amusing content on YouTube. Everything necessary is a look over the shoulder and all isn’t what it appears to be.

Pornography sexualises assaults, prostitution, and sexual misconduct. All the more, it normalises behaviour that is less than normal in humanistic interaction. Moreover, it objectifies both men and women.

Among the various visual mediums, such content is easily accessible via different internet platforms. Further, with time pornography in its various forms is only picking up pace. Needless to say its impact is not confined to its consumer only.

With less to no awareness about the negative consequences of watching pornography, our youth is heading towards the morally wrong. This increased frustration and lack of proper counseling is another reason for incidents of rape, sexual abuse and harassment. Parents blame the internet, but there is no point in doing that. Unfortunately, the youth here has gotten access to way more than what it can comprehend and use within its safe limits. It is important that till a certain age children are observed for their exposure to certain content and after that they are educated for the good and the bad of a phenomenon.
