Books are the primary source of knowledge and information

BALLNIGWAR, DASHT: Books are the primary source of knowledge and information. Reading habit is, therefore, a must for an educated society. For seeking knowledge and information, there are two types of books — course/textbooks and non-textbooks like those on history, current affairs, literature, etc. Among the famous writers whose works are important in the context of learning are Khalil Gibran, Paulo Chaulo, Dale Carnegie, Osho and many others.

While the importance of course books cannot be downplayed, reading of books other than the course material is what adds additionally to our knowledge, opinion and vocabulary. The course books are important to secure a college degree. However, a college degree is, in no way, a measure of one’s knowledge, aptitude and opinions on issues, as it is often seen that people with college degrees are far less well-read than those who haven’t received proper schooling.

There is a dire need to instil the habit of reading in our children and youngsters as part of efforts to have an educated society.
