KARACHI: “Democracy is of the people, by the people, and for the people.” Yet, I would like to know, why democracy is never in danger when people suffer.
I would like to know why democracy is not in danger when a mother in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan is forced to kill her own little daughter because of abject poverty, yet democracy is in danger when political leaders are held accountable for their corruption.
The death of even one child is shame on humanity, yet why democracy is not in danger when scores of children die of malnutrition in Thar, yet democracy is in danger when convicted politicians are not provided home-cooked meals in prisons.
Why democracy is not in danger when people die due to a lack of proper healthcare system, yet democracy is in danger when convicted politicians are not allowed to go abroad for medical care.
Can someone tell me why democracy is not in danger when those who raise voice for the poor become billionaires while the poor become poorer?
