With PTI leader Aleem Khan tendering his resignation, perhaps, things might change for the better
ISLAMABAD: The arrest by NAB and subsequent resignation of PTI leader Aleem Khan sets a precedent for politicians in the country, many of whom have been charged in different corruption cases but still hold their positions.
In the West when a politician, especially the one who holds a public office, is accused in a case, even if not proven guilty yet, he/she gives in his resignation to face the trial. But in Pakistan it has been seen time and again that a leader keeps on to his/her position even if he/she has to appear for multiple court hearing. This was also the case when former prime minister Nawaz Sharif was accused in the Panama Papers case. Sharif held onto his coveted position of prime minister while his case was being heard in courts.
But with PTI leader Aleem Khan tendering his resignation, perhaps, things might change for the better. There is no denying the fact that most politicians in Pakistan are not clean, so such resignations will perhaps lead to better and more dignified people join politics in the country.
