Polio-free Pakistan?

Letter February 04, 2019
Pakistan, unfortunately, has been failing in its fight against polio

KARACHI: For a very long time, Pakistan has been trying to become polio-free but unfortunately it has been failing in its fight against polio.

It is because successive governments have not done enough for making Pakistan polio-free but because the regressive mindsets of many parents are acting as a hurdle in the way of this struggle.

Many parents believe in the rumour that polio drops are a conspiracy of the West aimed at reducing our fertility rates by making our children infertile after being administered the drops.

Parents holding such views refuse polio drops for their children. But children suffer as cases of children being diagnosed with polio are still surfacing.

The government can counter the rumour is by including clerics in their anti-polio drive.
