Okara-Depalpur road is the main road used to travel to different villages, towns and cities
DEPALPUR: Depalpur city of Okara district in Punjab is an industrial and commercial region. Hence, heavy traffic moves on the roads across the city throughout the day. During the harvesting season of wheat, paddy and sugar cane, even a bike rider cannot keep within their own riding lanes due to poor traffic management.
Okara-Depalpur road is the main road used to travel to different villages, towns and cities. As Depalpur is a junction, it is connected with Bahawalnagar district via Head Sulaimanki and Haveli Lakha. It also leads to many cities such as Pakpattan, Bunga Hayat, Kasur, Shergarh, Basirpur and many others. Therefore, the traffic burden on this 20km-long road is certainly much more than its capacity.
Accidents on this road are common due to heavy traffic. As the situation is serious, something needs to be done at the earliest. The road must be open for one-way traffic only, that is, it should only provide a route to leave the city and not enter it. A separate link road should also be built to divide the traffic burden.
