The government should pay attention to the issue
HOTABAD, ZAMURAN: It is unfortunate that though around 60 per cent of our country’s economic sustainability comes from the agriculture sector, our government has failed to promote this sector.
Sugarcane farmers make a significant contribution to the economy but successive governments have done little to support them. The low price of sugar cane is adversely affecting the farmers, who blame the government and mill owners for their losses. Owing to this, it has been estimated that sugarcane production has been reduced by 15 to 25 per cent.
If farmers do not get a good price for sugar cane, they will either give up cultivating sugar cane or they will go on suffering losses. The government should pay attention to the issue.
