The Pakistan Cricket Board should consider imposing a fine on Sarfaraz, if not going as far as suspending him
KARACHI: Sarfaraz Ahmed’s inappropriate comment about a South African cricketer during a recent match got everyone thinking about what repercussions will the Pakistani captain face, considering that the comment he passed was racist. However, it seems like the matter has been resolved by a simple apology. But is that enough?
Will an apology help curb our culture of racism in the country? Or will it only tell people that they can go on saying what they have to and if things are called out a simple apology will fix everything? While we can give our captain the benefit of the doubt that he might not understand why what he said was politically incorrect but we should also set an example by penalising him in some way. This will only set an example and discourage cricketers from uttering comments that might hurt someone’s sentiments.
The Pakistan Cricket Board should consider imposing a fine on Sarfaraz, if not going as far as suspending him.
