A long way to go

Even in 2019, many put the responsibility of preventing assault on the victim itself

KARACHI: In a not-so-surprising move, the government of Malaysia had come out with a suggestion included in an elementary-school textbook, stating that girls should dress modestly to prevent sexual assault. While the government is now revising the suggestion having faced a backlash, it is important to understand that even in 2019, many put the responsibility of preventing assault on the victim itself.

A better initiative would have been that the Malaysian government could have included suggestions on raising better boys. Incidents like these only go to show that there is a long way to go before the world could become a better and safer place for women.
