It is important as young boys try to emulate the ways of sportsmen
More often than not, sportsmen have been excused for their behavioural misconduct, especially when it is directed towards women. How many times have we heard ‘oh that’s just some locker room talk’ and have been asked to ignore the way male sports celebrities treat women. But perhaps this is about to change. As 2019 has already set the precedent for this, India suspended its cricketers Hardik Pandya and Lokesh Rahul over their sexist comments made in the celebrity lifestyle show Koffee With Karan.
In the show hosted by director and TV host Karan Johar, both Pandya and Rahul were seen objectifying women. The episode was shelved off online after much backlash was received online by Indian social media users. Now the Indian cricket board has taken notice and suspended the all-rounder and the batsman and this could force them to leave the team’s Australia tour. Such a stand taken by the board should be appreciated by everyone as it is time sportsmen were held responsible for the way they act. It is important as young boys try to emulate the ways of sportsmen.
