Killing women in the name of honour is considered a way of restoring honour of the family
GUJRAT: According to the Human Rights Watch Report 2018, violence against women and girls — including rape, honour killings, acid attacks, domestic violence and forced marriages — point at a serious problem. In Pakistan, women especially girls are being killed over suspicion of adultery, love marriages and being involved with someone. The fact is that killing women in the name of honour is considered a way of restoring the honour of the family in society.
Patriarchal social norms have led men to act as a shepherd who already confines suppressed women within home to guard the family’s honour. Honour killing, acid attack and domestic violence are some tools to subjugate women and instill fear in them that would restrain their growth as full members of society equal to men.
