RAWALPINDI: The Naya Pakistan government had raised hopes that it would take a number of steps to improve life of the common man. The issues confronting the common man are obvious: security and safety; justice; clean food and drinking water; healthcare; housing; education; uninterrupted electricity; sanitation and protection from pollution besides better urban and rural transportation.
These issues were brought into limelight during our chief justice’s visits and suo-motu notice to different cities across various provinces.
While other issues are kept at the back burner by the incumbent government, an anti-corruption drive has been continuing in full swing. Perhaps, in regard to this we could learn a thing or two from our estranged neighbour.
To check the money leaving the country to foreign countries illegally, Pakistan too should, like India, adopt an incentive system for those honestly paying taxes. It is time that the government realised the need for this.
