School administration should ensure that vehicles they provide are fit to carry students around
LAHORE: The heartbreaking incident that occurred on the New Year has left many disappointed. A school van in Karachi’s Organi Town had caught fire because of which, eight children suffered burn injuries.
This tragic incident in the very start of this year is a case of criminal negligence on the part of the school administration as it is them who should ensure that the vehicles they provide are fit to carry students around. How did a van just catch fire all of a sudden? This should be thoroughly investigated.
However, apart from the school administration and the driver in question, questions should also be raised on the workings of the secretary transport Sindh and the regional transport officer of Karachi, working directly under the transport minister of Sindh, as they certainly failed to carry out inspections to ensure that the school van had a proper and valid fitness certificate.
