Not peons, but students!

Letter January 03, 2019
They also perform other activities that are completely a peon’s duty. Are they students or peons?

GHOTKI: Students are the future of any nation. But what about the nation whose students in schools are not students, but peons? In interior Sindh, especially in rural areas, there is a good number of such schools where these kinds of issues are on the rise. In Ghotki district, almost every village has a primary school. The irony is that, for a long period, I have not seen any peon in these schools. In these schools, students sweep and clean the desks, chairs, school yards as well as bathrooms. They also perform other activities that are completely a peon’s duty. Are they students or peons? Students come to schools not as students but rather peons, and I myself had to occasionally perform the duties of a peon during my primary education. I request the authorities concerned to take notice of the situation and appoint peons in schools.
