Federal and provincial governments should arrest people who are playing with the lives of innocent people
TURBAT: It is disheartening to mention that spurious medicines are being sold across the country, not just in rural areas but in urban centres too. According to the World Health Organisation, it has been estimated that as many as one million people die every day worldwide from ingesting counterfeit medicines. In Pakistan, 120 people died after taking counterfeit heart medicines in the year 2012 alone.
While measures have been taken since then to ensure quality medicines are being sold, there still exist pharmacies or doctors who sell spurious medicines. Instances of death caused by consuming spurious medicines have been reported in 2018 too, and in the wake of this, the government needs to take immediate steps.
It’s the responsibility of both the federal and provincial governments to arrest people who are playing with the lives of innocent people.
