In the range

Letter June 12, 2011
In any developed country, when a policeman points a gun at you and tells you to do something, you do it.

WASHINGTON, DC: This is with reference to Saroop Ijaz’s article of June 11 titled “In the range”. In the US, someone resisting arrest, which is what the young man in question was doing when he was shot, would have been met with a bullet in between the eyes, not the leg.

These Rangers by shooting him in the leg typified Pakistani complacency when dealing with people who fail to show any respect for the law or law-enforcement agents. In any developed country, when a policeman points a gun at you and tells you to do something, you do it. If you don’t, they will put you down mercilessly, they won’t just shoot you in the leg.
