I said that all KMC parking area were charging Rs20 and why he was charging more
KARACHI: Recently, I went to Shaheed-e-Millat Road in Karachi near Medicare Hospital. When I parked the car there, a person came to me and said that was a charged parking area of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC). He said that Rs50 would be the parking fee.
I said that all KMC parking area were charging Rs20 and why he was charging more. I also asked him for the receipt and when he handed it over to me, I noticed that three important things were missing from it: the KMC phone number, timing of the parking and the parking fee amount. That person was not either wearing any identity card to prove whether he was a KMC official.
Karachi Mayor Wasim Akhtar has taken strict actions against encroachment in the city over the last few weeks. I wonder when he will take strict actions against this parking mafia that has been on the streets of Karachi for past many years. I have seen thousands of complaints in newspapers and on social media regarding the parking fee issue, but no proper method has been introduced to tell the citizens what areas of the city have a parking charge and at what times. I recommend launching a KMC WhatsApp query number from where anyone can get information within few seconds.
