KARACHI: In line with the orders of the Supreme Court to demolish the illegal structures built on the government land reserved for other purposes across the country, Mayor Karachi Waseem Akhtar and the government of Sindh have been doing a great job and trying to bring the once city of lights back to its bygone days.
After this operation, Karachi will be free from blocked roads and pathways like a developed metropolitan city. On the other hand, however, removing encroachers like this will have its impact too. The issue of a lot of people losing their source of livelihood is one of them and is likely to get worse with every passing day. Thousands have lost their jobs in just one month. The government should provide them an alternative source of earning. Further it should also ensure that the state land is regularised so that no encroachers can illegally start their businesses on it.
