Hasty anti-encroachment drive

Letter December 13, 2018
Pushing a lot of people towards misery at once only shows the naivety of the policymakers

KARACHI: The current anti-encroachment drive in Karachi overlooks the issues of a segment that is most affected by the drive — the middle and lower classes of our society.

Livelihoods of people have been destroyed in the wake of this drive and so far no compensation has come their way. Not even able to take to the street in protest, these people are being pushed to the brink.

In the wake of all this, a temporary halt to the drive would give some space to all those concerned to figure something out for the future.

Pushing a lot of people towards misery at once only shows the naivety of the policymakers as they struggle to grasp the extent of consequences of this anti-encroachment drive. A little review can go a long way towards saving Karachi, the financial hub of the country.
