Before I die of the heat

Letter June 10, 2011
I request the authorities to let me complete that book before I die of the suffocating heat.

LARKANA: I am a retired teacher and a slightly known Sindhi writer. I have contributed seven books to Sindhi literature and have also contributed thousands of articles to Sindhi newspapers.

I have a bone to pick with the power authorities of Larkana. The issue is that I am a resident of Shahbaz Colony near Chandka bridge and in my area there is considerable electricity theft. This cannot happen without the complicity of lower-ranking utility officials like linemen and meter readers. This electricity theft causes overloading of the nearby transformer with the result that every week we suffer massive power outages.

I personally approached the power authorities to replace the 100 KV transformer with 200 KV transformer but they bluntly asked me to pay Rs50,000 for it. I am in the process of writing what may well be the last book of my life. I request the authorities to let me complete that book before I die of the suffocating heat.
