Unemployment

Letter December 07, 2018
Despite having talent and capabilities in various fields, unemployment is rampant in Balochistan

TURBAT: Balochistan is the centre of discussion in Pakistan these days for the priceless territory owned with numerous ongoing businesses with the likes of CPEC and Reko Diq. Besides that, the province possesses natural resources in the form of coal and natural gas.

With many resources gifted from the nature, the province is reported to have been the poorest in the country since 2007 — with the lowest literacy rate across the country and minimum population. According to the recent census, Balochistan’s population is around 12,344,408 including 52% Baloch and others 48% Pashtuns, Brauhis, Sindhis and Punjabis. The poverty rate of the province seems to be increasing year by year. It was 48% in 2001, 50% in 2005, 71% in 2015 and 86% in 2018.

The major cause of this is negligence on the part of the federal and provincial governments. Despite having talent and capabilities in various fields, unemployment is rampant in Balochistan. I urge the government to promote the locals of the province.
