Reports say at least six LPG cylinders were kept in the car that intensified the flames
TURBAT: A stolen car was destroyed in Karachi’s Defence area as an explosion occurred inside it in the wee hours of Monday. No loss of life was reported. When the explosion occurred, the vehicle was parked on a vacant plot near Khadda Market.
According to the police, the gas cylinder fitted in the car exploded and the blast occurred. Reports say at least six LPG cylinders were kept in the car that intensified the flames. The police decided to obtain CCTV cameras installed outside nearby homes and the roadside in order to determine the actual cause of the blast. Further investigations are underway.
However, this isn’t the first time that a potentially fatal incident had occurred due to an LPG cylinder in the metropolis. A few months back, a car mysteriously caught fire while being driven by its owner in the city’s Boat Basin area. Though no casualty was reported, the owner said it was most likely due to a short circuit in the car’s battery that had blown up the LPG gas cylinder installed in the vehicle. More recently, in Turbat, an explosion occurred due to an LPG cylinder as well. Several students lost their lives in the incident and many others were critically injured.
The government should, therefore, consider banning the use of LPG cylinders or implement stringent safety measures for LPG cylinders.
