Reviving Karachi

Letter December 02, 2018
It’s like the old Karachi is coming back to life

KARACHI: Few weeks ago, everything was at its usual pace in Karachi — the traffic, pollution and garbage. But for the past few days, we have been seeing Karachi evolve.

Roads are being re-constructed and illegal buildings going down, more prominently in the area of Saddar. It’s like the old Karachi is coming back to life. The Bohri Bazaar too is now free from all encroachers as government officials have cleared this area as well and now there is enough space to walk around freely.

Illegal shops are being trashed in areas like Regal as well. Even the old DHA nursery has been removed and roads now look way better than they were before.

As someone who was born in the 90s, this is something I had never seen or expected. I just heard stories that Karachi used to be clean and green back in the good old days. But now witnessing this change in Karachi is like living a dream and hopefully the glory of the city will be restored again.
