Water crisis

Letter November 28, 2018
Nine companies in the country that have been found to be providing ground water in the name of mineral water

TURBAT: Tackling the water crisis in Pakistan is one of the top- most priorities of the government. While one aspect of it is building more reservoirs, another aspect is providing the growing population clean and safe water.

But there are nine companies in the country that have been found to be providing ground water in the name of mineral water. They are also allegedly not paying the state in return for digging wells to extract water.

The ground water is decreasing by the day. As a result, people are consuming mineral (bottled) water due to the lack of a better alternative as ground water is also found to be contaminated. However, if these bottled water companies are also using the same water and conning their customers, then where should one go?

It is time the government focused not just on building dams but on providing secure and clean water as well. Proper mechanisms must be introduced to hold the companies found indulging in fraudulent practices accountable.
