A Christian and the Punjab PA

Letter June 09, 2011
It is ironic that prior to 1947, the Punjab Assembly was presided over by a speaker who was a Christian.

MELBOURNE: This is with reference to Khurram Husain’s piece of June 9 titled “A Christian and the Punjab PA”. What the writer is recounting is most unfortunate and, in fact, ironic given that prior to 1947, the Punjab Assembly was presided over by a speaker who was a Christian. Also, interestingly enough in the 1965 war, of the 43 gallantry awards of Sitara-e-Jurat awarded in the Pakistan Air Force, five were given to Christian officers. Later, in 1971, out of 11 posthumous awards given, two were given to Christian officers.
