The inauguration has been scheduled for 28th of this month
LAHORE: It’s been long since India has positively responded to peace efforts by Pakistan. The Indian foreign minister declined to meet Shah Mahmood Qureshi, our foreign minister, on the sidelines of the UNGA meeting, parroting the same old allegations of terrorism against Pakistan.
However, India’s recent announcement to open the Kartarpur corridor is a welcome response that Pakistan has warmly welcomed. The inauguration has been scheduled for 28th of this month. However, one hopes that the Kartarpur corridor initiative taken by Pakistan will not meet a fate similar to the one that the Samjhota Express Train and other such countless peace initiatives had met.
Further, it is hoped that the presence of Navjot Sidhu, the former Indian cricketer and a current parliamentarian, would not be blown out of proportion by the Indian media and seen in a positive light only. The Kartarpur corridor is a golden opportunity for Pakistan and India to mend their ties and start a dialogue over the longstanding Kashmir dispute and other conflicts like the one on water.
