LAHORE: In Rawalpindi, a boy reportedly shot his mother dead for not giving him money to buy drugs.
Saadullah, a young man of 24 and working at a local petrol pump, is addicted to drugs and alcohol. He lived with her mother Tasleema Bibi, 55. He came home and asked his mother for money to satisfy his addiction to drugs and alcohol but her mother refused to give him money. He got furious and shot her seven times, before making his escape good. A case has been registered, and the culprit and is under investigation.
Today, a majority of youth are involved in activities like kidnapping, pick-pocketing, robbery etc. Further, drug addiction is as real a concern as depression. Both equally need proper treatment either via therapy or medicine. Unfortunately, in Pakistan adequate facilities for either are unsatisfactory and inadequate, particularly in case of government hospitals and medical setups.
Private facilities charge a fortune that the majority cannot afford, hence many precious lives are wasted or lost. The provincial health ministries must work swiftly for provision of affordable and satisfactory services for drug addiction.
